Jersey, the largest of the British Channel Islands has a total area a little over 116 square kilometres at high tide.

Remarkably, with each low water the Island, surrounded by its constellation of offshore reefs, Les Minquiers, Les Ecrehous and Les Pierres de Lecq, swells to more than double its land mass. The Bailiwick of Jersey in its entirety covers over 3500 square kilometres, encompassing some of the most impressive and valuable marine habitats found anywhere in the world.

This website is one part of an effort to bring the nature of the lesser known "other half of Jersey", to a wider audience. As well as the offshore reefs, to the southeast Le Banc Violet is a unique moonscape - well explored but little understood. In the west, St Ouen's Bay is a high-energy shoreline - a natural ampitheatre to aeons of sea level change. While from the rugged north coast, the Channel Island Archipelago stretches into the distance and deeper waters of La Manche. Each and every centimetre of Jersey shoreline will reveal something new to the inquisitive observer.

If you are already a sage on local maritime matters, we hope to add something to your appreciation of our shores and coastal seas, plus learn something ourselves if you would like to communicate? If you are dipping your toes into Jersey waters for the first time, welcome! We look forward to hearing what you think of our ramblings and seeing any reflections you may have, from wherever you may be on the planet.
